Tales From Acorn Wood is a theatre experience for families, but more precisely aimed at babies and toddlers, based on the beloved books of the same name, by Julia Donaldson and Alex Scheffler.
It’s a live version of a lift the flap story, taking all of the most popular books and combining them into a single 55 minute performance.
Poor old Fox has lost his socks! Are they in the kitchen or inside the clock? And Rat-a-tat-tat! Who’s that keeping tired Rabbit awake? You can also join in with Pig and Hen’s game of hide-and-seek and discover the special surprise Postman Bear is planning for his friends.
Using a combination of to tapping music, wonderful puppetry, and a magical set – ably assisted by a cast of very talented actors and puppeteers of course – your little ones will feel immersed in the world of Acorn Wood. It will fee like stepping into the books they have been read so many times at night.
This quick video will give you a better idea of the show than anything I write ever could, so have a look and see what you think:
The show will only be in Portsmouth for a single day, at the New Theatre Royal on the 31st of March, although there are two performance times:
- 13:30
- 16:00
So depending on nap schedules and bed times you will hopefully be able to fit on of them in.
Tickets are the same price wherever you site:
- £19.50 for adults
- £17.50 for children
So it’s not a frivolous spend, but it is a unique opportunity, because this is the first time the Acorn Wood books have ever been transferred to the stage. You will be watching something totally fresh and brand new.
If my two were still young enough I would be there in a shot.
