Portsmouth Fireworks Display 2026 – Southsea Common, 4th November

There is something about firework night that never gets old. Standing outside on a cold November night with a crowd of people you don’t know wouldn’t usually sound all that fun, but throw fireworks into the mix and it’s a whole different story.

Portsmouth’s fireworks display takes place on Southsea Common on Wednesday 4th November this year, so we are getting our celebrations in a day early. The fireworks are scheduled for 7pm, but there is plenty going on beforehand if you want to make an evening of it.

With stalls, family entertainment and a funfair to keep everyone occupied while they wait for the main event, it’s an afternoon not to be missed.

There will also be hot food and refreshments available, which sounds like a good excuse for a hot dog and a hot chocolate to me! Although anyone taking children should probably prepare themselves for negotiations over how many turns they can have on the rides.

Best of all, entry is free! A family outing where you can watch the main attraction without paying for tickets is always welcome.

Tickets and Info

The Portsmouth Fireworks Display is not ticketed, you can just show up and enjoy yourself at any point. There is a loose schedule to be aware of though.

The timings are:

  • 4pm: Site opens, with stalls, entertainment and the funfair.
  • 7pm: Fireworks scheduled to begin.
  • 8pm: The event finishes.

Although entry is free, you will want to bring money for anything you fancy buying while you are there. Toffee apples and the like.

All the essentials like toilets, a first aid post and a visitor information point will be available, and there will also be a welfare tent with a lost child point, lost property, ear defenders and seating for anyone who needs a breather.

They are expecting a big turnout, so give yourself plenty of time to get parked and what not. Even better, walk or get the bus if possible.

Oh, and the display is weather dependent, so if weather warnings are in place it might not go ahead, so check before setting off.

Fingers crossed it will go off with a bang though – see what I did there? Then all you need is a warm coat and your best “ooh” and “aah” noises.
