King Arthur has faced some difficult challenges over the years, but even he might struggle with an evening in the British weather.
The Three Inch Fools are bringing their new outdoor family friendly production, King Arthur and the Holy Fail, to Stansted Park on Friday the 4th of September. It is a comic take on the Arthurian legend, packed with daring quests, medieval mayhem and a hero whose destiny does not appear particularly keen to cooperate.
And obviously, since it’s an outdoor production, he might get rained on too, along with the audience – but hopefully not!
The story begins when Camelot is rocked by a highly improbable incident involving a large table of an unspecified shape. This leaves the would-be hero Arthur facing the quest of a lifetime, complete with scorching fire, blistering cold and the small matter of saving his entire realm.
As the title probably gives away, this is not intended to be a serious retelling of the legend. Expect plenty of silliness alongside the knights, jousting and medieval adventure. The outdoor setting at Stansted Park should also make it a memorable way to spend one of the final evenings of summer.
Tickets and Info
The performance starts at 6pm, with the gates opening at 5pm. It lasts for approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, plus a 20-minute interval.
This is also a picnic event, so you can bring your own food and drink to enjoy while you watch. Just be aware that there is no seating provided, so you will need a picnic blanket or some camping chairs.
You should be even more aware that the performance will continue in almost all weather conditions, so take warm clothing and waterproofs if the forecast looks uncertain. Umbrellas are discouraged though, because they can block the view for other people in the audience. Ponchos are preferred.

Advance booking is recommended. Tickets may be available at the entrance if the performance has not sold out, but it’s a risk.
The event takes place near the North Entrance of Stansted Park at Rowlands Castle, and it sounds like great fun. So get yourself along and enjoy some culture in the sunshine (hopefully!)
