One of the most important days in recent history will be remembered and celebrated on the 10th of May 2026 – VE Day.
For anyone who doesn’t already know, VE Day is the day the allies announced victory in Europe over the Nazis, marking the beginning of the end of World War 2. Back in 1945, people lined the streets, bunting was hung out, tables were erected in the middle of the road, and communities came together to celebrate the end of a long, horrible war.
Fast forward to today, and we remember that day again at the D-Day Story Museum in Portsmouth.
There will be all sorts going on throughout the day, from entertainment such as singers performing songs from the time, to swing dance and Lindy Hop lessons courtesy of the Swing Dance Company. Not to mention craft activities for the children and a ‘Spies and Lies’ family trail to follow full of code cracking and challenges. That one even ends with a free D-Day Story backpack your kids get to keep.

You will need to buy admission to the museum at the normal price, but all of these activities are included in the normal admission price. You can pay on the door but it’s cheaper to book in advance. Here are the prices for both options:
- Adults – On the door: £18.50 / Online: £16.60
- Senior (aged 60+): On the door: £14.55 / Online: £13.20
- Students and children (aged 5 to 17): On the door: £9.15 / Online: £8.30
- Family (up to 2 adults and up to 3 children): On the door: £45.50 / Online: £41.35
- Under 5s: – Free
There are discounts for disabled visitors, members of the armed forces, and a few other concessions – oh, and if you know anyone who served in World War Two they get in for free. And rightly so!
Of course, the museum will also be open as usual so you can have a look around all of the exhibits that are usually on show.
The museum is open from 10:30am until 4:00pm so you can make a whole day of it.
