Great Britain Sail Grand Prix: Southsea Common, 25th to 26th July 2026

How lucky are we to live in Portsmouth? Not many towns in the country could host an event like the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix, but here it is right on our doorstep, taking place at Southsea Common on the 25th and 26th of July.

This event is part of SailGP’s season, and is dubbed by many as the most exciting race on water, and for good reason too. Thirteen national teams are set to fight it out on the tumultuous waters of the Solent, and you can watch it from the shoreline with your very eyes.

The races are short, sharp and exciting. It’s a high tech, high speed spectacle featuring the best athletes in sailing.

The teams compete in identical F50 catamarans, which use hydrofoils to lift above the water and can reach speeds of around 100 kilometres an hour. Even if you do not know your port from your starboard, it is difficult not to get caught up in the moment when the boats are flying across the Solent at that sort of speed.

Check out these highlights from last year:

Ticket holders will take their seats on the Waterfront Grandstand, where live commentary will be presented.

Tickets are available but they are not cheap. You are looking at at least £70 for adult day tickets and £50 for children, whereas weekend tickets come for between £112 and £120. If you really want to go for it you can spend up to £390 to get full VIP access.

Tickets get you access to lots of extras like food and drink outlets, interactive games, and entertainment, so it’s not just the racing you will have to look forward to. The event starts at 2pm each day.

Whether you are a sailing enthusiast or just someone who wants to experience something a bit different (and absolutely thrilling), the Great Britain Sail Grand Prix 2026 won’t be something you forget in a hurry.
