Portsmouth Force Summer Slam enjoyed their first event in 2025, and they are back for 2026 on Sunday 12th July, bringing a lively afternoon of basketball, entertainment and community spirit to Admiral Lord Nelson School on Dundas Lane.
The event is part of the Portsmouth100 celebrations and is organised by Portsmouth Force Basketball Club, hence the name. The school grounds will be transformed into a busy community sports space, with activities for all ages and abilities, although there is no pressure to join in if you don’t want to.
Visitors can take part in basketball skills sessions, friendly games, shooting challenges and a dunk contest, giving players and spectators plenty to get involved with or entertained by. Away from the court, there will also be music, food and community stalls you can browse or buy from. It promises to be a relaxed, festival-style atmosphere for families, schools, sports fans and local residents.

The Summer Slam is designed to celebrate grassroots sport, inclusion and local pride, while also giving people the chance to connect with one of Portsmouth’s community clubs. You don’t need to love basketball to go, it is a welcoming day out whether you already follow the sport, you have children who want to try something new, or you simply fancy supporting a positive local event. And we should all be doing more of that in Portsmouth, right?
To top it off, entry is free, although tickets are available to book online to help organisers manage expected numbers. It starts at 12:00 and ends at 16:00, so if you plan to go, do them a favour and let them know.
