The summer holidays might be at an end, but there is still a lot of fun to be had before the sun disappears for another year, because the 999 Family Fun Day is taking place at Port Solent on the 5th of September.
This is the perfect way to spend your Saturday, with something to do for every member of the family and a whole day’s worth of entertainment on offer.
Plus, it’s free to attend – what more can you ask for?
Between 10am and 4pm, you and the kids can get to know your local emergency service workers, get a good look at police cars, ambulances, fire engines, and other vehicles, including being able to sit in them, and even take a look at some of the historic vehicles they used to use. You might even get to see them in action, because if they are needed for an emergency, they will be dashing off with their lights flashing and their sirens sounding.
The event takes place on Port Solent’s car park, where stalls with games and some fundraising for charities like the RNLI will also be pitched up. People can ask questions, learn about the different services, come away with a few souvenirs, and even find out how to get involved in some cases where volunteers are needed.
If nothing else, it’s worth bringing the kids so they can wear a fireman’s helmet and get their picture taken in the front of a police car!
